The John Brown Project and Trinity Episcopal Church present "His Truth is Marching On," a film that traces the evolution of American music from 1619 to hip hop through the lens of the Civil War song "John Brown's Body."

This award-winning documentary features performances by dozens of Northwest Connecticut artists, showcasing the rich tapestry of musical traditions that have shaped our nation.

The evening will be filled with inspiring music and thought-provoking conversation:

  • Live performances by singers from the internationally acclaimed Chorus Angellicus

  • A guest talk by Mark Linehan will explore John Brown's unwavering passion for equality and his continuing relevance today

  • A screening of "His Truth is Marching On," which recently received a 2023 Award of Merit from the Connecticut League of History Organizations.

This event is more than just a film screening; it's a community gathering that celebrates the power of music and its ability to unite us. As Daniel Morrison, the film's producer, states, "I think this project is important because it tells the people in our community that they are safe; they are valued and respected for the simple fact that they exist."

Admission is free with a suggested donation of $10 or some nonperishable food items for the Community Soup Kitchen.
